MATERIALS MANAGER

Sea-Bird Electronics is seeking a motivated individual to direct the activities of the purchasing and material control teams in pursuit of world-class supply chain management and coordinate operations-wide activities to effectively manage inventories to provide exceptional customer service at an effective cost. Develop strategic goals in support of breakthrough goals, including improvements in delivery, inventory, and cost. Identify breakthrough activities, resource them appropriately, and apply Kaizen activities. Develop a Danaher Business System culture and team to ensure smooth business growth and management succession.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage daily activities of the purchasing department in procuring required materials at the lowest possible cost.
  • Build rigorous procurement planning and execution systems and improve where necessary.
  • Closely monitor inventory levels to ensure effective management.
  • Work with Operations teams to maximize the effectiveness of Kanban systems.
  • Create and execute long-term improvement projects by identifying their area’s breakthroughs, building the matrix and bowling charts, and ensuring action plans are resourced. Drive a culture of stretch goal attainment utilizing Danaher Business Systems.
  • Develop and monitor monthly operating budgets.
  • Ensure all associates are knowledgeable of, and comply with, all work policies and Quality system requirements.
  • Evaluate Associates performance and conduct review. Recommend hiring and termination. Coach, train, and counsel associates to improve performance. Works closely with HR Department to resolve issues resulting from unacceptable associate’s behavior. Top-grade talent as required to ensure a strong team.

EDUCATION, BACKGROUND, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • BS Degree, 5 yrs minimum materials and/or management experience
  • ISM / APICS certification desired
  • Excellent communication skills, demonstrated change management
  • Data and Fact-Based problem solving skills, Lean Mfg./6 sigma knowledge desired
  • Scheduling and planning skills
  • Basic financial skills
  • Time management skills
  • Computer office skills

INCOMING PARTS INSPECTOR

Sea-Bird Electronics is seeking a highly motivated individual with mechanical aptitude to inspect complex machined parts. The successful candidate must be detail oriented, a self-starter, possess strong problem-solving and time-management skills, and enjoy interfacing with others. This position reports directly to the Production Engineering Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings used to inspect machined parts
  • Receive all incoming parts in MRP software system
  • Inspect parts using various precision inspection tools (i.e., calipers, pin gages, etc.)
  • Capable of documenting non-conforming parts reports 
  • Communicate parts inspection results as need to appropriate personnel
  • Stock parts and maintain inventory
  • Create inventory locations for inspected parts as needed
  • Prepare parts for additional vendor processing

EDUCATION, BACKGROUND, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • 2-4 years experience measuring and inspecting parts, or related experience
  • Possess a high level of mechanical aptitude
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively interact with coworkers, vendors, and other office staff
  • Work an eight (8) hour shift and able to work overtime when required to meet deadlines
  • History of good employment attendance and punctuality

SERVICE AND REPAIR ELECTRO-MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN

Seeking a highly motivated individual with mechanical aptitude who can diagnose and repair oceanographic instruments. The successful candidate must be detail oriented, a self-starter, possesses strong problem-solving and time management skills, and enjoy interfacing with others. This person reports directly to the Customer Service Supervisor. A Electro-Mechanical Technician is accountable for the following:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Using the Service Request Form and Service Database, check in and evaluate equipment for damage and/or repairs
  • Perform external visual inspection
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment to determine services and repairs required
  • Process repairs required/performed into an Access data base
  • Perform electronic troubleshooting
  • Perform equipment repairs including, but not limited to:
    - Soldering and wiring
    - Replace inoperative electrical and/or mechanical parts
    - Performing electronic troubleshooting
  • Verify repairs, by performing salt water Bath Tests
  • Reconfigure instruments to customer requirements
  • Change instrument batteries
  • Complete and deliver the final report to the Customer Service Supervisor or leads
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned

EDUCATION, BACKGROUND, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Technical Degree in Electronics, or equivalent experience preferred
  • Knowledge of soldering, Power Supplies, Digital Multimeters, and Oscilloscopes
  • Possess a high level of mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to learn scientific and/or plotting software
  • Ability to effectively interact with coworkers, customers, technicians, sales, and other office staff
  • Ability to work well with others as part of a team
  • Work an eight (8) hour shift and overtime when required to meet deadlines
  • History of good employment attendance and punctuality
