Address: Sea-Bird Electronics, Inc. is the largest manufacturer of marine instruments for measurement of salinity, temperature, pressure, dissolved oxygen, and related oceanographic variables. Major products include Conductivity/Temperature/Depth (CTD) profilers, multi-bottle in-situ water samplers, moored CT recorders, wave/tide recorders, dissolved oxygen sensors, and thermosalinographs (click here for a complete listing of all our products). Customers include research institutes, ocean observing programs, national and local government agencies, engineering firms, and navies throughout the world. As part of our commitment to advancing the science of ocean measurement, we are deeply invested in engineering, metrology, calibration, software development, scientific analysis, and other essential technologies that make our products more accurate, reliable, and broadly useful. Sea-Bird Electronics was founded in 1974 and incorporated in 1979, and currently employs 115 people. The company has been profitable each year, and devotes a large fraction of its yearly revenue to research and development. The company became wholly owned by Danaher Corporation (DHR) in 2008. Dr. Nordeen (Norge) Larson (President and Oceanographer) is a former owner and still serves as the active top management of the company. Dr. Larson has extensive oceanographic and sea-going experience. Major responsibility for operating management is in the hands of David Helwig (Operations), Jim Hochstein (Marketing), Calvin Lwin (Applications Engineering), Dr. Tom Mitchell (R&D), Dave Murphy (Science), and Mark Thorpe (Finance). Drawing upon years of experience in the field, this team continues to maintain our collaborative approach to serving customers, and to guide Sea-Bird's growth. After many years of operating in a number of separate, small buildings, Sea-Bird moved around the corner in 2010. The new facility is large enough for all of our operations, and provides opportunities for expansion to adjacent buildings as we continue to grow. Sea-Bird Scientific was formed in 2010, joining Sea-Bird Electronics, WET Labs, and Satlantic to provide the best in biogeochemical and physical oceanographic sensors, and allowing us to better develop, design, and deliver comprehensive, integrated systems for our customers. The management and location of each of the companies in Sea-Bird Scientific remain unchanged. The Sea-Bird Electronics European calibration and repair center opened in 2011. Located in Kempten, Germany, Sea-Bird GmbH offers our European customers the same high-quality repair and calibration services that had only been performed at our facility in the U.S. Additional Information:
